The FIRST of “MALATYA TRANSPLANTATION DAYS” was SUCCESSFULLY ORGANIZED

The Liver Transplantation Society of Turkey hosted a symposium, entitled “Malatya Liver Transplantation Days”,  on September 9-10 2011 in Malatya İnönü University, Turgut Özal Convention and Cultural Center, with the cooperation of  the İnönü University and the Turkish – German Foundation. The symposium, in which different aspects of liver transplantation and organ transplantation were addressed, received a great deal of attention (far more than was expected). Numerous experienced participants in their fields, together with local and international speakers, including Professor Yaşar Bilgin, the President of Turkish-German Foundation, Uwe Jorg Hahn, the Minister of Justice, Europe and Integration, Ahmet Çalık, Kenan Işık, Vahap Munyar, Münci Kalayoğlu, and Yaman Tokat all attended this symposium, which was chaired by Professor Sezai Yılmaz, the Vice-Chairman of the Liver Transplantation Society and the Director Inonu University Liver Transplantation Program. The symposium, which was also extensively covered in the press, demonstrated how successful and prominent Turkey has been in terms of organ and liver transplantation. One of the most striking aspects of the conference was the live video show that was simultaneously broadcast from the Operating Room of Turgut Özal Medical Center, Malatya İnönü University, during the conference. The participants were able to witness each step of the liver transplantation surgery through the live broadcast, accompanied by the moderators Professor Yaman Tokat and Professor Munci Kalayoglu, the presenter Professor Sezai Yılmaz.. Participants who wished to ask questions were even encouraged to ask their questions during the live broadcast and they received replies from the actual surgery team.

Another interesting part of the conference was the session on the second day, in which  participants discussed at what level organ transplantation surgeries were conducted in Anatolia. This session, in which extremely striking findings and important information were exchanged, was an important initial step for further progress.
